What to ask before a therapy
A short checklist for discussing purpose, suitability, precautions, hygiene and follow-up.
The six essentials: a useful conversation guide
Asbab-e-Sitta Zaruriya is traditionally described as six factors that influence wellbeing. The list offers a way to reflect on routines and surroundings. It should be used as a prompt for discussion rather than a self-diagnosis tool.
Air and environment
Fresh air, season, weather and the spaces where we live are considered in traditional Unani thinking. A practical conversation might include ventilation, temperature and exposure to environmental irritants.
Food and drink
Food guidance should reflect the person, their medical needs and what they can follow consistently. Do not use a general online list as a substitute for professional dietary advice.
Movement, rest and sleep
The balance of activity and recovery differs from person to person. Sleep and wakefulness are discussed separately in the source material because timing and quality of rest matter in everyday life.
Emotions and elimination
Emotional state and the body’s normal processes complete the traditional six-part framework. Persistent or concerning symptoms deserve proper clinical assessment.
Five questions before a regimenal therapy
Why this option?
Ask what it is intended to do and what alternatives are available.
Is it suitable for me?
Share diagnoses, medication, allergies and any relevant medical history.
What happens during it?
Understand the steps, duration, expected sensations and who performs it.
What are the risks?
Ask about hygiene, contraindications and warning signs afterward.
How will we follow up?
Confirm aftercare, contact options and when to review the plan.
Understanding temperament without self-diagnosis
Mizaj is often translated as temperament. In the Unani tradition, it describes qualities considered in relation to the person, not a single score that an online quiz can reliably assign. It may help organize questions about how someone experiences their environment, food, rest and routines. Individual history remains important, and conventional medical diagnoses should still be considered on their own terms.
When discussing Mizaj, ask what observations inform the assessment and how the result would change a recommendation. A useful explanation links the traditional concept to practical guidance you can understand. If advice includes a restriction, medicine or procedure, ask why it fits your situation and what should be reviewed later.
You do not need to know classical terminology before visiting Asclepion. Bring your questions, existing reports and medicine list. Dr. Sadia Fatima can explain how the tradition is being used in your personal care discussion.
Before a regimenal therapy
Regimenal therapy is an umbrella term for methods such as massage, topical applications, hydrotherapy and other procedures listed by the clinic. The word “traditional” does not make a method universally suitable. Some methods involve skin contact or are invasive, and precautions differ. Ask about hygiene, ingredients, aftercare, possible adverse effects and whether your health conditions affect the choice.
If the proposed method is cupping, leech therapy, venesection, emesis or purgation, take extra care to understand the reason for suggesting it and the risks. The service page explains each named offering and distinguishes future services. Website reading can prepare questions, but it cannot replace a proper assessment.
A note on educational content
The journal is intended to make Unani concepts easier to understand. It cannot provide diagnosis or individualized treatment. Seek urgent medical help for severe, sudden or worrying symptoms.
